FAQs

What is acupuncture?

Acupuncture is one of the most popular modalities of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It was developed over 2,000 years ago and is still being used today for one reason, it works. It is a safe, natural, and effective way to treat many health conditions. There are also many different styles of acupuncture. Here at Restorative Care Acupuncture & Health, we strive to provide the best acupuncture in Miami.

Does acupuncture hurt?

Usually not much. Unfortunately, the fear of tiny acupuncture pins keeps many people from trying it. They are sterile, single-use, solid, drug-free, and about the thickness of a human hair so the insertion, if felt at all, it is minimal. Many patients feel so relaxed during acupuncture treatments that they take short naps while on the treatment table.

How safe is acupuncture?

Acupuncture is an extremely safe, natural, drug-free therapy that helps restore the body's ability to heal itself. Licensed acupuncturists in the United States use a clean needle technique to reduce the risk of infection. This is especially true for acupuncturists in Miami. Also, we use sterile single-use disposable needles which are almost as thin as a human strain of hair. Acupuncture is so safe that in China, patients receive it once or twice a day for weeks, then take a short break. Not only is this safe to do, but also this typically gives the best results.

What does acupuncture treat?

Acupuncture effectively addresses various conditions by promoting the body’s natural self-healing processes. It is particularly beneficial for musculoskeletal disorders, orthopedic conditions, migraine headaches, fatigue, anxiety, depression, insomnia, digestive disorders, sinus allergies, gynecological conditions, post-surgical trauma, and much more.

What does acupuncture treat why choose acupuncture over other medical modalities?

Acupuncture is known for its minimal side effects when performed by qualified licensed practitioners. It complements other medical treatments and takes a holistic approach, addressing the underlying causes of health issues while providing symptom relief.

How are acupuncturists educated in the United States?

Every state has different requirements. To be licensed to practice Chinese medicine and acupuncture in Miami one must fulfill the following requirements:

  • Attend a three- to four-year extensive training program from an accredited Oriental Medicine College to study Eastern and Western medicine and earn a professional master's degree in the field. This also includes clinical rotations where the students treat live patients under supervision.

  • Pass four national licensing exams from the NCCAOM (National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine):

    1. Foundations of Oriental Medicine

    2. Acupuncture with Point Location

    3. Chinese Herbology

    4. Biomedicine

  • CNT (clean needle technique) certified by the CCAHM (Council of Colleges of Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine)

  • CPR/AED certified

How many treatments will I need?

It all depends on:

  • The condition being treated

  • The patient’s overall health

  • The length of time the patient has had the condition

  • How committed and consistent the patient is with their personalized treatment plan

  • Whether or not they follow all or most of the practitioner's recommendations

Over 85% of patients will typically see significant results in about 5 to 12 visits.

After the condition has been resolved or the maximum results have been achieved, we recommend less frequent or monthly visits as maintenance to ensure the condition does not reoccur and to maintain health.

How many treatments will I need When should I get acupuncture?
